Product Review: Mary Kay Make-Up

I was so excited when Influenster emailed to say I'd be getting a Mary Kay box soon.  I used Mary Kay products back in high school but have not really used them a ton since then.  It was ironic timing of the e-mail because I'm having a Mary Kay make-up artist do my bridal portrait make-up Friday.

Here are the products I received:

*Mary Kay Lash Love Mascara in I <3 Black
*Mary Kay Cream Eye Color in Apricot Twist
*Mary Kay Mineral Cheek Color in Shy Blush
*Mary Kay Translucent Loose Powder
*Mary Kay Gel Eyeliner with Expandable Brush Applicator in Jet Black
*Mary Kay Bronzing Powder
*Mary Kay NouriShine Plus Lip Gloss in Mango Tango
*Mary Kay Cream Eye Color/Concealer Brush
*Mary Kay Powder Brush

To prep before applying my products, I used my tried-and-true favorites:

serum / eye cream / lotion

eyeshadow primer / face primer / beautyblender / concealer / tinted moisturizer

My skin started out looking like this:

I started with the bronzer, then applied the cheek color.  I brushed the translucent powder all over my face and neck afterwards.  I have never used translucent powder to set my make-up, but I definitely will be adding it to my routine.  And I love the powder brush that Mary Kay sent me.

I moved on to apply the cream eye color.  It goes on fairly smooth and definitely even, but it took several coats to get my lid as dark as I wanted it.  I used just a single coat to go up to my eye brow.  I love the way the cream shadow feels and the brush works really well with it.

I have never used gel eyeliner before; I generally use liquid eyeliner on my top lid and then a cream based one on the bottom.  I was a little nervous about using the gel because I was afraid I was going to mess up, but I really like the way it looked.  I definitely will be using more.  Probably not every day because I am usually in a rush, but definitely when I'm going out.

The mascara went on really well too.  The brush isn't as thick as I like, but it went on well.  It sort of reminds me of Maybelline's greatest lash mascara, which I use as a base mascara before applying my favorite.

My hands down favorite product was the lip gloss (the translucent powder was a close second).

It isn't sticky at all and it stayed put.  The color is great for summer but isn't overwhelming, which is exactly what I look for in a lip color.  I highly recommend getting this.  It kept my lips hydrated all day too.

Definitely give Mary Kay's make-up a chance.  They've got some great products on the market for sure!

Disclosure: I received these products complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes.  All opinions are my own.
