Weekending: D.C. at Christmas {Part 1}

Good morning y'all!  I am so excited to bring you a recap of our Christmas vacation today.  DG and I made a decision to spend our first married Christmas together and we wanted to do a little getaway.  We decided on Washington D.C. because DG had not been since he was in middle school and I hadn't been in a couple of years.
We drove to Jackson to spend the night with my parents and have our Christmas early before heading to D.C.  We went out to dinner and I just love how Main Street looks at Christmas.

 My dad generously took us to the train station on Tuesday morning.  It was my first time taking the train, so I was pretty excited.  The Rocky Mount train station is shockingly beautiful and pays tribute to the historic significance of eastern North Carolina.

Our train was delayed two hours and I was a little worried about making our dinner reservations at Old Ebbit Grill.  We did find a coffee shop in the train station which made the wait a little more pleasant for me.

We arrived at Union Station at night and we were both so giddy.

We checked in at the Hilton Garden Inn and got ready for dinner at Old Ebbitt Grill.  I ordered the Riot Burger, which comes with bacon, fried oysters, and pickled shallots and it was seriously... amazing.

We then headed to the W Hotel to P.O.V. for a drink.

Also, the W hotel is gorgeous on the inside!

I loved our hotel's little lobby too.  The fireplace was so cozy!

The next morning, we woke up and went exploring.  We knew it was going to rain on Christmas Eve, so that worked out nicely for us to head to a few museums.  But first, we went to Bagels, Etc. near our hotel.  I got an everything bagel with bacon and egg and OMG, it was amazing.  So amazing that we had breakfast there every morning and got a lunch for the train ride home.

We went to the National Archives because I love seeing the Magna Carta and the Constitution, and DG wanted to go because it is in one of the Night of the Museum movies.  Then, we went into the National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden.  DG was so excited to see some famous sculptures.

We went into the Smithsonian American Art Museum.  DG is a huge fan of Edward Hopper and they had an art exhibit of artwork created by artists during the Great Depression and sponsored by the PWA.  I got in trouble for taking a picture in an exhibit that didn't allow photography... whoops. But I did get this awesome shot.

It wasn't really cold, but I was glad to have my Hunter boot socks, Fillmore rain jacket, and fleece lined leggings.  I also picked up a new pair of gloves before leaving from the Purple Polka Dot.

We had dinner in Georgetown at Old Glory, which is an awesome BBQ restaurant.

I just adore Georgetown.  I snapped this photo before heading back to Union Station for our Monuments by Moonlight tour.

Stay tuned tomorrow for the remainder of our trip!
