Running

Ready for some confessions?  I don't always love running.  Most of the time, it seems more like a chore than something I am looking forward to at the end of the day.  Sometimes, I sign up for races thinking it will motivate me to run, but at times, it seems more daunting than exciting.
In the past, I've signed up to run half marathons and have not thoroughly trained.  I've trained enough to make it through, but I have not trained enough to meet my goals.  I would make excuses for why I couldn't get enough runs in, whether it was because I was too busy or I was too tired, or I would put off the run to do something else.

I would see co-workers and friends who would make time to run and I just could not figure out why they were so much better at time management than I was.  So, then I would get frustrated.  I also would go in mentally defeated because I would start thinking about all of the other things I should be doing with work and with our house.

When I was in middle school, I tore my ACL playing kickball in P.E. (yeah, for real).  I had reconstructive surgery and two screws in my knee.  Sometimes, my knee bothers me and I get anxious that I am going to injure myself again.  But I have learned that I can do more than I give myself credit and this will be my 5th half marathon in a week and a half.  I never thought I would do one, much less 4.  I am also excited about this race because it will be the second one DG and I complete together.

I have found a few solutions to some of my running excuses in the past.  I schedule my runs and treat them like appointments.  It has made a huge difference in my training for this half marathon.  I also have taken my shoes seriously.  It has made a huge difference in supporting my knee in distance running.  I also invested in clothes that I want to wear while running.  It does a lot for motivation.  And... I treat myself to a favorite meal after a long run.  #Irunforfood

Here are a few items that motivate me to help when I don't want to run:

Bright running shoes

A great running top

These crop running tights are the perfect material for running.  I highly recommend!

This sports bra provides a ton of support for running long distances.

I also use my FitBit to track my distance.  I listen to music and my favorite station to listen to is Pandora's Bachelorette Party.  I've found that setting goals but trying to not think while running are the best things for me.  There are times I still cannot conquer my brain, so I just try to go out the next day and have a better run than the day before.

Are you a runner?  What movitates you on the days you don't want to go?

P.S. Have you entered the Southern Ideal Home Show giveaway?  What are you North Carolina gals waiting for?
