Between the red carpets of award season and the runways of London fashion week, lately my newsfeed has been filled with fashion trends from all over the world. And just like any other girl, I can't help but take special notice of the shoes trekking down both.
Even though we're still a ways away from being able to sport spring and summer styles, there are a few standouts that you would be smart to add to your current collection.
For starters, there's one shoe whose name sounds as unique as it looks—Babouches. Babouches, otherwise known as slipper shoes, are flat, pointed, and usually soft. Worn by natives in Morocco, the shoes were revamped and brought into the spotlight for the first time in the fashion world during Celine’s 2016 Resort Wear show.
According to this trend alert, brands like Victoria Beckham, Narciso Rodriguez and Opening Ceremony all used the shoe as inspiration for their own footwear lines. If you grab a pair for yourself, they recommend pairing the comfortable shoe with an equally comfortable outfit. Try a short dress, shorts, loose pants, trousers, or a flared skirt.
If Babouches are a little outside of your comfort zone, there's another fun style that's been making its way around the trend circuit. Embrace your inner girly-girl with a pair of bejeweled or bedazzled heels as seen in this article. You can get this look in a thick or thin heel, and a sandal or pump. Frequently you'll see the style integrate additional whimsical elements like flowers, butterflies, glitter, or fun and colorful dots.
These shoes are embellished with such bright, bold elements that they usually go best with a more neutral outfit. Try pairing them with a midi skirt or a short dress when the weather warms up.
Finally, if you take a look at what's popular lately in this designer shoes collection, top names in the industry are favoring shorter, chunkier heels over skinny stilettos. And who doesn't love it when a new trend is rooted in comfort? With a lower, wider heel, your feet will be better supported throughout the night, allowing you to wear your heels longer, with less pain.
Try an all-black strappy sandal with your favorite summer dress, or you can make a casual denim outfit pop with a bright white variety. And of course, you can't go wrong with a pair of ankle booties. Chunky heels and ankle boots go together like a string of pearls and Chanel suits—perfectly classic and fashionable.
You can never have too many shoes! Add one (or all) of these styles to your spring and summer collection for a fun twist on classic styles.
Hope you're having a great Wednesday!
