The Wednesday before Thanksgiving, I held the RDU Baton and had a blast. If you are a Raleigh/Durham local, be sure you check it out on Instagram (@rdubaton).
My morning started out with running some errands in Holly Springs. It was a cold, rainy day, so I stopped at
SiP to grab a cup of coffee. I generally do not drink "high maintenance" coffees, but I decided to try their gingerbread latte and was not disappointed. While waiting, I snapped this picture of their bakery items.
I did refrain myself from snagging one of those cupcakes, but it was really difficult to resist. Check out my Foodie Friday post about SiP
here.
After running errands, I grabbed Winston and headed to
Woof Gang Bakery and Grooming in Cary for his Thanksgiving bath and grooming appointment. In the spirit of the holidays, I could not resist letting him pick out a little treat.
After I dropped Winston off, I went and met my friend ECW at
Side Street Cafe in the Oakwood District in Raleigh.
I had the AV-O-CA-DO Crush On You... Sweetie Pie sandwich. I had turkey and added bacon. I had a side of homemade potato salad. I was beyond stuffed when I left and I was obsessed with my meal. I would love to have my bridesmaids luncheon here.
After lunch, ECW and I went to North Hills to see Catching Fire.
I read The Hunger Games almost two years ago and was obsessed. Literally, I read the second and third book in a day and a half. I was dying to see Catching Fire and was absolutely not disappointed. I'm just dreading how long until Mockingjay comes out. If you haven't seen Catching Fire yet, go!
DG and I started a tradition our first Thanksgiving together about going out to dinner the Wednesday before to celebrate Thanksgiving with just the two of us. I have written numerous posts about
Poole's Diner before and how Ashley Christensen is everything, but we had not been to Poole's since May. We got there and it was not very busy which was shocking because there is always a wait. Given the fact that it was sleeting that evening, it should not have been a surprise.

We ordered our normal appetizer of pimiento cheese. Funny (but long) story, but prior to going to Poole's for the first time, DG was adament that he would never try pimiento cheese. Every time we tried to go to Poole's, there was at least a two hour wait and he refused. We finally went one time and there was only an hour wait, so we grabbed a drink at the bar and waited. Ashley was there and came out to greet her guests. She came over to where we were sitting and I told her how we always had an outrageous wait and I finally convinced him to stay. We chatted for a few more minutes and then she went in the back. She came out about 5 miutes later carrying a plate of pimiento cheese and DG devoured it. So now every time we go to Poole's he has to get it.

DG got chicken and mashed potatoes, I got oysters and meat carpaccio, and of course we got macaroni and cheese. If I could, I would only eat macaroni and cheese as my meal, but there are too many other delicious options to pass those by. I have never eaten anything at Poole's that I did not love.
My favorite part about the restaurant is how everything is written on chalk boards.
DG and I wanted to stay out a bit longer, but given the fact that the weather was so bad, he wanted to get off the roads. It was a great day, and I really had fun in the area.
I've really enjoyed following along with the RDU Baton because I am constantly finding new places to try in the area. Definitely check it out!
Hope you are having a great weekend! It's been so cold and dreary here that I am finding tasks to do inside, including making two more
Christmas tree skirts to send out tomorrow!
xoxo
